Sailing routes
The Land van Maas en Waal sailing area entails the part of the river Meuse between Lithoijen and Niftrik. You are not allowed to moor on the Meuse. This is allowed in the many river branches and sand holes beside the Meuse: recreational area the Gouden Ham, the Loonse Waard, the Oude Maas and the lakes near Alphen and near Batenburg.
Important: sailing upstream (towards Grave) always takes more time than sailing downstream.
Note:
You may NOT take the log cabin boat through the locks at Lith/Lithoijen and at Grave.
Active enjoyment in nature
The Moringerwaarden nature reserve is a beautiful part of the Gouden Ham where you can take a nice short stroll. Even more fun is exploring this area by canoe or SUP. While paddling, discover the plants and animals in and along the water in this so-called riparian forest. It is magically beautiful in all seasons!
Land van Maas en Waal has nice fishing spots to cast a line. You can then fish for typical freshwater fish such as pike, zander and bream, but catfish also swim around here.
This cruising area has no ebb and flow so you can moor on the lakes and in the river branches for as long as you like. You are not allowed to moor on the Meuse itself.
Roasting marshmallows by the campfire
In the Gouden Ham and at the other major lakes along the Meuse, nature gets all the space it needs. Quiet beaches alternate with lavishly vegetated shores. Here you can always find a beautiful nature spot for a special overnight stay.
On the natural beaches and grassy banks where there is enough open space, you are allowed to light a campfire and/or barbecue, but always make sure you do this safely.
Grab a bite to eat or visit a village
On a log cabin boat, you have everything on board for a great holiday, but do you want to go out for a meal or visit a nice place ? Then combine an overnight stay on one of the natural jetties or in a marina with your outing. Recommendations include the Hanseatic town of Maasbommel and the village of Batenburg with its ruins.
Enjoy one of the many waterfront terraces in this area, or take a nice walk along the banks of the Meuse. The Land van Maas en Waal is surprisingly versatile!
Seeing special large and small animals
Several special animals can be seen from the water in the Land van Maas en Waal. Think beavers, kingfishers and spoonbills. Tip: bring your binoculars!
Do you hear rumbling and bellowing in the forest? Then you probably spotted a pair of curious red poll cattle! In Moringerwaarden, a large herd grazes wild all year round. Along the banks of the Meuse, you will come across groups of wild horses feasting on the green grass.
