Rugged wilderness where you truly unwind

The Biesbosch is an adventurous maze of rivers, with islands of willow forests and jagged creeks with crystal-clear water. You can walk here, but the wet, rugged nature of this marsh is best experienced from the water. Cruising silently through the narrowest creeks, ducking under low branches, you experience nature from the water’s surface. Kingfishers shoot by, a harrier hunts among the reeds and perhaps an osprey or a beaver will even show itself. In the Biesbosch, you are at one with nature.

National Park De Biesbosch is the largest freshwater tidal area in Europe. Ebb and flow have shaped the landscape here for 600 years. Sailing through this tidal area can therefore only be done with a good water chart. If you can’t go further with the Log Cabin Boat due to shallow depths, take the canoe to explore the Biesbosch further!

For centuries, osier cutters, reed cutters and rush weavers earned a meagre living here. In 1970, the Haringvliet was closed. The large differences between low and high tides disappeared, and with them, the shrub and reed culture. The willow fields became overgrown and nature was given free rein. And now sea eagles and ospreys are breeding here again. Other animals that are very much at home here are beavers, loaches and common kingfishers. The Biesbosch is a rugged wilderness, where you find silence and calm.
