Mills and tea gardens
Much of this sailing area is in the Betuwe, the fruit garden of the Netherlands, which you can enjoy en route. Between Rumpt and Beesd, you pass the Boutesteijnse theetuin, the only tea garden on the banks of the Linge. Moor the log cabin boat for a pot of tea and a delicious fresh pastry. Sail a little further and you will pass Mill De Vrijheid. This gristmill is still in full operation and also has a mill shop selling fresh produce. You follow the meandering curves of the Linge under the A2 motorway, and immediately after the viaduct, you can moor on the right. On the other side of the dyke is tea garden De Fruithoeve. After Enspijk, you pass Mill De Vlinder. This white gristmill is located on the famous Appeldijk!
Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt
In the middle of the Betuwe, on the outskirts of Beesd and Enspijk lies one of the largest estates in the Netherlands; Landgoed Heerlijkheid MariënwaerdtA family estate of over 900 hectares of fields, meadows, orchards, woods and lanes. There is plenty to do here and there is a nice landing stage from which you can explore the estate on foot. There are three hiking trails across the estate that are recommended in any season, but especially in spring and late summer. Lunch and dinner at De Stapelbakker is a celebration! Be sure to visit the beautiful country shop that is brimming with fresh estate produce.
