Canoeing on the Korne
Paddle or walk to the Royal city of Buren
Fun canoe route from Geldermalsen
Geldermalsen is the last place in the cruising area you are allowed to visit with the log cabin boat. The port has a landing stage, but a little further on past the bridge you may also moor at the day jetty. Just beyond the day jetty, you will find another mooring site in nature. From there, it’s great to hop on your canoe or SUP for a nice trip to Oranjestad Buren! You can also walk to it, it is about 2.5 km away. Along the way, you will encounter many birds: waterfowl like grebes and swans and, if you are lucky, a kingfisher.
Buren
Picturesque Buren is tucked away on the Korne, a river branch of the Linge. This fortified town has a rich history, in which the Dutch royal family played an important role. Not only did William of Orange marry Anna van Egmont there in 1551, but today, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are still count and countess of Buren. The town has much more to offer, you can go for a nice walk, sit on a terrace right by the water at Della Contessa and in the town you will find several cosy restaurants and a wide choice of unique shops.
Near the port in Geldermalsen, you will also find a supermarket. If you want a bite to eat, then the new Restaurant Locals is nice, the unique building follows the graceful shapes of De Linge on which it is located. The restaurant works with the finest and tastiest the Betuwe has to offer.
