Nature of Alphen and Lithoijen

Make your own campfire and spend the night in quiet nature

On the Meuse, alternate between Brabant and Gelderland, as the provincial border is in the middle of the river and follows it. From the Gouden Ham, you can sail to the natural lake in Alphen within an hour. You can easily moor there using the spud poles. There are often horses or cows walking around here. You can also enjoy a BBQ or make a campfire there.

If you would like to grab a bite to eat, moor at Haven de Schans. Here you eat the best burgers in Maas and Waal and you can have a drink. There is also a play ship for little guests. If you want a more extensive menu, we would like to recommend Brasserie Het Anker, located a little further down.

From Alphen, you can continue sailing towards Lithoijen. In front of you are the locks of Lith, you are NOT allowed to pass these with the log cabin boat. Just before the lock, you can turn left onto the Oude Maas; this old river branch is shaped like a horseshoe. At the end of it, you can spend the night quietly in nature, enjoy swimming and fishing.

In the centre of the horseshoe you will find the new nature reserve the Hemelrijkse Waard. Visitors can enjoy rugged river nature here while strolling and spotting the many birds in the area. Especially if you climb the 7.5-metre-high watchtower. You will always see something that makes you happy. A tern or spoonbill by the water, unique plants or a hare scurrying away.
